IRDM-8 - 8 Channel IR Driver Module
The VDA Solutions 8-Channel IR Driver Module is a compact, high-reliability infrared output board designed for custom automation, AV control, and Home Assistant integrations. The board provides eight independently driven IR output channels, each exposed via 2.4 mm 2-pin JST headers for direct connection to IR emitters or external driver leads.
A standard 2×5 header interface allows flexible integration with a wide range of microcontrollers, including ESP32-based designs, GPIO expanders, and custom control boards. This approach lets installers and developers jumper the module to their controller of choice without locking the design to a single MCU platform.
Each IR channel is transistor-buffered with onboard current-limiting, ensuring stable, repeatable output suitable for continuous 24/7 operation. The layout is optimized for clean signal routing and easy serviceability, with clearly labeled silkscreen and logical channel grouping.
Key Features
8 independent IR output channels
2.4 mm 2-pin JST headers for secure emitter connections
2×5 control header for MCU-agnostic integration
Transistor-buffered outputs for consistent IR drive
Onboard current-limiting and protection components
Compact footprint for enclosures or rack-mounted control systems
Clear silkscreen labeling for fast installation and troubleshooting
Integration & Software
The IRDM-8 is designed to pair with VDA Solutions custom control cards and integrates seamlessly with Home Assistant through your preferred microcontroller or firmware stack. Reference implementations, Home Assistant integrations, and expansion card designs are available on GitHub:

Typical Applications
Home Assistant–based AV control
Cable and satellite box automation
IR control for TVs, receivers, and matrix switchers
Commercial AV and digital signage
Embedded and IoT IR control projects
Design Notes
Supports standard IR carrier frequencies (controller-dependent, typically 36–40 kHz)
Intended as a modular building block within the VDA IR control ecosystem
Designed and tested for continuous, unattended operation
IR Driver Module v1.1 reflects VDA Solutions’ modular, controller-agnostic approach—giving integrators full flexibility without sacrificing reliability.
